Social Networking Impacts Lives Using Hash Tag #GIVEBLOOD

Seal Beach, CA – May XX, 2012 – Music Saves Lives, a nonprofit encouraging youth blood donations, is partnering with photo sharing app, PictureHealing, to save lives in a flashy new way. From now thru June 16th, donors can use PictureHealing to say “cheese” while giving blood, share their photo with the hashtag #GiveBlood, and receive a free ticket upgrade for the 2012 Vans Warped Tour.

For the last 7 years, Music Saves Lives has been instrumental in over one million blood donations. Each summer the nonprofit rewards several donors with upgraded tickets to the Vans Warped Tour. This year, thanks to a new partnership with PictureHealing, a free photo sharing app that benefits community and charitable initiatives, the plan to impact the summer blood supply will be at record numbers. And, of course, there will be even more concert vouchers up for grabs.

“This unique, social media campaign will give those that want to be part of the program an easier way to save lives and reap some cool music related benefits,” said Russel Hornbeek, Music Saves Lives founder. “We are excited to collaborate with PictureHealing on this initiative.”

To get involved, individuals can simply download the PictureHealing app, snap a photo donating blood at any blood center, and share it on Facebook, Twitter, or Foursquare with the hashtag #GiveBlood. The donor can then order the picture online to be redeemed as a concert upgrade.

“Music Saves Lives is an amazing organization that shares our philosophy of doing good while having fun,” says Christopher Brereton, founder of PictureHealing. “We couldn’t be more excited to collaborate with MSL and participate in the 2012 Vans Warped Tour.”

The movement has already begun across the US, and can be followed by searching #GIVEBLOOD. Individually, these two organizations may seem like an average nonprofit and simple iPhone app company, but together they just might change the world.

New iPhone App Turns Picture Sharing into Real Charitable Donations

LOS ANGELES, CA – May XX, 2012 – Next time iPhone users strike a pose for the camera, they can smile a little wider, knowing they are benefiting their favorite charities. PictureHealing is the only iPhone photo-sharing app that let’s users support their favorite charities with the click of a pic. With every photo shared users are raising awareness and money for their favorite charities.

PictureHealing allows users to snap pictures directly from the app and add creative filters and frames. Users can then easily upload their photos to Facebook, Twitter and Foursquare or email them to friends. The main difference between PictureHealing and other photo sharing apps is that with PictureHealing those snapshots are actually benefitting users’ favorite charities.

“I strongly believe that exposure breeds opportunity,” said Chris Brereton, Founder of PictureHealing. “And what better way to gain national exposure for these important charities and their missions than through capturing and sharing our memories?”

PictureHealing began as a way to raise awareness for Leukemia Lymphoma. As the company garnered greater awareness, they realized they could expand their platform to benefit more than just one cause. Today, PictureHealing supports a wide array of initiatives, ranging from animal rights to the environment to breast cancer. Users can choose up to three charities to support through photo sharing.

“We are constantly adding new charities and causes to our roster,” adds Brereton. “That is the best part about PictureHealing; you are able to support whatever causes you are passionate about!”

PictureHealing donates 50 percent of all proceeds generated from ad revenue, photo printing, sponsorships, events and add-ons; the more pictures shared, the more money charities receive. The app is free to download – all users need is a big smile and a bigger heart.

Guru Christopher was recently featured on the homepage of IdeaMensch.com, a blog focused on people and ideas.

Here’s a quick snippet of the article. To read it in full, go here.

What are you working on right now?

We’re working on so many things right now! Tech wise, we’re developing phase 2 of the PictureHealing app and improving our website components and tools for our partner charities. Now that we’ve released the core functionality, we’re using the agile methodology so that we can release updates much faster in sprints.

We’re super excited about the next release. Users will find a plethora of new social features including the ability to follow each other, charities and brands. It will have all the commenting and liking functionality you see in many other applications, as well as the ability to order prints of the pictures you see being shared. We’re expecting the next update to drop in a few weeks.

In the public space, we’re in the middle of organizing some awesome cause marketing efforts with fun brands and properties like the Vans Warped Tour to support organizations like Music Saves Lives and Keep A Breast.

Where did the idea for PictureHealing come from?

I tend to look at business in a very artistic manner. As an artist, one has many mediums to blend together in order to develop something that is beautiful, something that people can interact with and understand. That’s our approach at PictureHealing. I challenged myself and my co-founders to look at the marketplace, find holes and establish creative ways to fill those holes…

They say a picture paints a thousand words. In the case of the new smartphone app PictureHealing, an image can do a ton of social good. Through fancy, fun photo-sharing, PictureHealing empowers users to support three charities of their choice. Incentivize caught up with the certified B Corporation’s CEO, Christopher Brereton, to get the lowdown on PictureHealing’s social entrepreneurial secret sauce.

Incentivize: How is PictureHealing different from other charity apps?

PictureHealing is different in a few key ways, one major one being that the app isn’t the core business at the end of the day, it’s the vehicle for the change we’re fostering. It’s sort of the artist’s medium. Our goals are really centered around turning online efforts in to offline actions, and inspiring people to get involved, and learn more through their every day actions…. READ THE ENTIRE ARTICLE HERE

About two years ago, I had lunch with a fellow entrepreneur (even though I still frequently misspell that word) who was working on developing a daily deals site that featured products from companies focused on creating some good. We met through some mutual friends out in Santa Monica, and had lunch at the ever so tasty Urth Cafe on Main Street.

Over lunch we both discussed the challenges we were facing… friends not understanding that we were quitting high paying jobs to tackle internet based companies that were built to make the world a better place, investors not grasping that by doing good, we could do well, even CPA’s and lawyers telling us what we were doing couldn’t be structured legally, the way we wanted to do business.

I’m stoked to say that he and I have been proving everyone wrong ever since! Last night Roozt.com had their reLaunch party (or as I like to call it… a reHatching). Roozt is no longer a daily deals site, it is now a global market place for all things good! It’s a place to discover brands making an impact on the world!

Some of my favorite people made it out to celebrate what Brent and his awesome team of Roozters are doing, including Christina from One Brush, who we will highlight very soon! The evening was filled with such an amazing energy in the air, surrounded by over 100 do-gooders from companies like CauseCast and Google, all the way to supporters of the Social Enterprise movement.

Their is an exciting energy in the air right now! Business doesn’t have to think of it’s responsibility as a secondary, it really can focus on impact from the ground up. We are excited to welcome our friends and a fellow B Corp, Roozt.com back in to the scene! I know where I’ll be doing my shopping from now on

Look good, feel good, do good!

Guest post coming to you from our friends at Incentivize.us by Jeff Ramos

Some non-profits just seem to be all the rage these days. It always seems like everyone is talking about their work. Every time they come up in your newsfeed because another celebrity has signed on to help them out. All their post go viral. They make it look… well… easy. And you have to wonder, what are they doing differently? It’s tempting to think they are just lucky or maybe even blessed, but they’re not. They are just thinking differently than most non-profits.

2012 can be the year your non-profit makes a change and rocks the world. Here are some foundations to get you started..

1. Show everyone something real.

It might come as a surprise, but the big numbers that encourage donors to support you, alienate the average person. It’s difficult for most people to make sense of the large numbers your non-profit totes as the leading cause for its existence. The key is to inspire them by showing them what your real work is like.

The public wants to connect with real people and not gigantic digits. Allow your fans to make a real emotional connection with the work you’re doing on the ground. Inspire audiences by showing them what your real work looks like and not your annual report.

2. Where’s YOUR star power?!

Who are the real, hard-working, and dedicated people in your space? Are you giving them an opportunity to share their passion for the cause? Are you giving them a chance to stand in the spotlight? It doesn’t matter if they aren’t sexy or “camera friendly”. People are drawn to honest passion, and while we do judge a book by it’s cover, we eventually fall in love with that book because of its contents.

When you allow the stars of your cause (not the celebrities) to endorse your mission and share knowledge among your existing constituents, you’ll create something viral that’s worth a damn. If you can deliver eye-opening or enriching content that speaks to the core values of your cause and its constituents, you create content that lights a fire in people’s hearts.

3. Empower your evangelists.

I’m sure your parents have told you to never put your eggs all in one basket. So why do so many non-profits assume that simply having people sign petitions, attend rallies, and share pamphlets will change the world? You can change the world if you truly empower the change agents doing the work.

The truth is anyone can sign a petition, hand out a flyer, or repost a call to action online. Your evangelists are more clever than these simple actions allow them to be. Give them some agency that stokes their creative instincts. Create the opportunity to carry your banner in unique ways that challenge the perception of what non-profits should do.

At the same time, this approach allows everyone, no matter what their “creativity” looks like, to contribute in ways that make sense to them. Why hold back someone’s passion and genius by making them do something anyone can do?

So now what?

To make this year rock, you can’t use last year’s playbook. If you’re truly itching to make…Read the full post at Incentivize.us by clicking here
